COMMUNICATION PART 1

COMMUNICATION PART 1
The smart technology revolutionized our communication. You can now easily talk to another person on the other side of the globe. All of the information is just a few clicks away. This text is not going to concentrate oN the over all information available and how much of it is fact or fiction.
When It comes to communication and learning usually a three different types are mentioned: Visual, auditive and kinesthetic.
- Visual people tend to learn and get their kicks from images, enjoy colors and designs, may be fast talkers and use their hands while taking. They also use figurative language.
- Auditive people are generally good listeners they use a lot of auditive references in their speech.
- Kinesthetic people tend to be more practical and learn by doing. Communication with a kinesthetic person maybe more complicated because it's hard for them to verbally put in words what and how they feel.
Your learning style maybe completely different then your communication style. Today's writing won't go through in depth of the different communication styles but hopefully makes you think what is your own style. What makes you react and how do you learn?
Because there're plenty of different communication styles we surely will end up misunderstanding each other at times. For example my way to speak quickly and throw my hands around may make the people to think that I'm a visual type of communicator. I am. BUT. There is a kinesthetic side in me. To make me really understand what we are talking about I need to really feel that too. I may see a picture and think it's nice but without that physical experience or a memory it really doesn't enlighten any deeper meanings to me. Auditive person may not get in a same tune with me. He maybe describing me what sound a stone would make when it hits the water but I would love to see that stone hitting that water and preferably be the one to throw the stone!
The picture above of the mannequin shows the modern day posture really well! Just dip the head forward a bit to look at the small screen in your hand.
The question is how these smart devices affect the development of our communication skills and our own communicational needs?
Apparently most of our communication is non-verbal communication. For example body language. Most of the over all communication is device centered. In healthcare more and more time goes on writing reports which of course is crucial in patient care. But the core reason for unhappy patient is lack of communication. Same applies to relationship issues and poor work environment.
I would argue that the smart technology has weakened our over all communication skills. The people on the other side of the screen often gets dehumanized. You can treat them as you like. A picture, moving picture or just text isn't a living thing. Just a few codes in the endless space of codes. So why not share that individuals pictures or the call+pictures for everyone in your group to wank with? When you get bored you can choose another subject for your desires and leave the other without any explanation. Hey! Just one among so many! And lets treat the patient as a list of diagnoses. Why to bother even to look at the patient in the eyes? There're plenty of other patients waiting! Was on a date yesterday and that person was really pretty damn nice but I'm just too busy looking at the cat clips and maybe that cat lady is more interesting?... My other half and I had a really big fight and didn't talk things through... Well. There won't be any problems left if I just start dating another man!
Could this technology be behind the waves of anxiety, depression and social exclusion? Possible even the behavioral problems? How can we improve our communication skills to actually acknowledge that the text or picture in your screen is another human being? How can we make sure that in healthcare we really remember to look at our patients and customers at least once in the eyes during our clinic rota? Instead of ghosting and dehumanizing try to connect and explain.
